Tips That Actually
Matter

What we tell everyone before they head out.

📵
No cell service in the gorge. Download AllTrails and offline Google Maps before you leave the cabin. Do it the night before, not in the parking lot.
📅
October is the best and most crowded month. Fall foliage peaks mid-October. Book Gorge Underground and the zipline weeks ahead. Hit popular trailheads before 9am or after 4pm.
🥾
Wear real shoes. Don't hike in sandals or flip flops. The trails are rocky, rooted, and uneven. Trail runners minimum — hiking boots preferred.
🎣
Get your fishing license before you arrive. Buy a Kentucky fishing license at fw.ky.gov — about $23/year. Much easier than waiting in line at a bait shop.
🚤
Book boat rentals early. Scott Creek Marina fills up fast in summer. Call 606-784-9666 to reserve. Public boat ramps are free if you bring your own watercraft.
🌡️
The Gorge Underground is always 50–55°F inside. Bring a light jacket or hoodie even if it's 90° outside. The temperature drop is actually a relief in summer.
🔥
Use the fire pit. Firewood is stocked at the cabin. The outdoor movie screen + fire pit after dark is one of the best nights you'll have here. Don't rush inside.
🏕️
Gorge restaurants are seasonal. Most are Thu–Sun only and hours vary. Call ahead if you're driving more than 20 minutes for a specific spot. The gorge doesn't run on a city schedule.

"Two worlds, one retreat. Wake up to the lake. Spend the day in the gorge. Come home to the fire pit."
